Premier Men’s Trial Games and Earthquake Relief Fundraiser
With the Canterbury Premier League season fast approaching, and our pre-season preparation all but decimated by the disastrous events and sad aftermath of the Tuesday 22nd quake, UC Hockey has decided to kick off the 2011 season with a fun three-day tournament/trials weekend against local university rivals Lincoln and their talented team, the Lincoln Lions. The weekend’s proceedings will be as follows:
Trial Match 1 – Friday 11th March, 7.30pm, Nunweek Park – This game will be open to anyone wishing to play premier men’s hockey this year and will be treated as the start of the trialling process that will then continue over the next couple of weeks (more details as to the remainder of the trialling period will be released soon – watch this space). Of course, spectators are more than welcome!
Earthquake Relief Match – Saturday 12th March, 4pm, Nunweek Park - Thanks to the initiative of some of the Lincoln players, this second game will take the form of a fundraiser in an effort to raise money to combat the tragic effects of last month’s shake. Playing in this game will be by invitation only. However, the Club urges as many of you as possible to come along and support this event. It promises to be an entertaining afternoon of quality hockey, celebrity appearances, hot food, and fantastic spot prizes! Don’t miss out. Be at Nunweek Park this Saturday from 4-6pm.
Trial Match 2 – Sunday 13th March, 5pm, Nunweek Park – This game will be a trial game much like the Friday, and thus will again be open to anyone wishing to play premier hockey for UC in 2011. The match will be immediately followed by a small presentation ceremony to bring this new but henceforth annual tournament to a happy conclusion. Please come along, it may be the last evening before some of us finally have to go back to university!
For further information, or to register as a player for the Friday and Sunday games please don’t hesitate to contact our Club Captain, Redvers (email: rtw22@uclive.ac.nz).
Thanks and Regards,
UC Hockey Club
